Delightful Daylilies

Welcome to Beyond The Garden Gate, where I'm sharing my home and garden.

I walked across the street and took this photo of the front of our home.

I have some geraniums in my little red wagon too. The geraniums have grown and I repotted them after this photo was taken. I think next year I'll add some bacopa to the pots of geraniums.

Meanwhile, in the rocky garden in back, the Danova mix primula is blooming again.

One could say the garden is at or near peak. Daylilies are one of my favorite flowers and I have many here at Sunsplash Gardens. Following are a few for your viewing pleasure.

June garden morning and giveaway win!

Color in the cottage garden - June 15, 2012

I'm loving the looks of the cottage garden this summer. It's full of color and lushness.

I raise my vegetables in raised beds; top to bottom: tomatoes, Chinese miniature gourds (aka 'Jack Be Little' or 'Munchkin'), zucchini

Zucchini blossom - did you know you can bread,  fry , and eat these? I tried them last summer, but have to admit my preference for zucchini vs. squash blossoms.

Like everything this year, the tomatoes are ahead of schedule.

I love, love, love coneflowers and have many throughout my gardens.

Did you know that our gardens take up a very large amount of our backyard? Nonetheless, there is always room for more plants. Just sayin'

Beebalm and white shrub roses look nice together.

Speaking of shrub roses, look at this rambling Knockout. 'Spose I could prune it, but it's just so pretty as is...

We do name "our" strays. This is Oreo 2.0 (pronounced "Oreo Two Point Oh"). He resembles a prior Oreo, hence the name.



Speaking of cats, this is my sweet Gracie.

I am blessed to have won Snap's Summer Curiosities giveaway. Tea in the garden

Welcome to my garden, today a place to sip a cup of tea and have a delightful treat amongst the flowers.

In my garden are many flowers...

 A lavender hydrangea of the Endless Summer type

 I work at changing some of my Endless Summer hydrangeas from pink to blue by altering the pH of the soil from alkaline (pink) to acid (blue). Note above: blossoms pinkish-lavender on the inside with blue edges - blooms in transition

I have tea set up for us on the patio.

This is the patio, under the deck, in Sunsplash Gardens (Ron and I have recently named our gardens). I've set up a tea tray with my Dutch teapot and a 'Liberty Blue' tea cup and saucer.

Also in my garden: rhubarb, and I've made a dessert bar called Rhubarb Meringue.

Paul Revere's ride is featured on the 'Liberty Blue' cup.

 Rhubarb Meringue - to increase its deliciousness, add ice cream or whipped topping. I've shared the recipe below.

Rhubarb Meringue

1-1/2 cups flour

7 tblsp powdered sugar

3/4 cup butter or margarine, melted

Mix the above together and press into a 9x13 pan. Bake for 15 in. at 350 degrees.

3 eggs

2 cups sugar

1/2 cup flour

3 cups rhubarb, cut up

1 tsp baking powder

Mix the above together and pour onto top of crust. Bake for another 45 min.
