The day 500 people walked through my garden

Sunsplash Gardens, the place where I reside and garden, is a source of joy and pride. I was delighted to be a part of the Polk County Master Gardeners' 2011 Garden Tour. Over 500 people viewed my garden that day.

Here's some of what they saw.

They saw Beth and Ron, Master Gardeners - not dressed like this, of course!

They saw a little garden art:

My son built this bench for me; it's modeled after Tootsie's.

They saw outdoor tablescaping:

They saw raised beds:
The foxes were NOT there on tour day.  lol

They saw vegetables:

They saw a demonstration on composting:

and, of course, they saw FLOWERS!
 Supertunia 'Vista Bubblegum'

 Lambs' ears

 Rose 'Double Delight'

 Clematis 'Niobe' (I think)

 Dianthus

Achillea 'Paprika'

 Hemerocallis 'Frans Hals'

 Cleome

Rudbeckia 'Indian Summer,' a re-seeding annual

If they were lucky, they saw a butterfly on the Verbena bonariensis.

It was a fulfilling, deeply gratifying day: the day 500 people walked through my garden.*

* by the way, the garden has expanded and is even better now!

That is an extremely large amount of people. Can't even imagine how tiring the day was, but a very fulfilling one. Great photo of you and your husband.

I remember the post about that. Have you had a tour since you expanded? I think its time you did it again! Wouldn't they be surprised?

you look beautiful and hubby so handsome. What a lovely thing to do
and to enjoy doing. Your backyard
looks lovely and I know it brought joy to the heart of those 500 folks.
Loved the bench your son made, that was so cute. Now where does he live?? Didn't realize you had a son
too!
Loved this post hon, thanks for sharing it.........

Dearest Beth what a lovely experience for those lucky folks who live in your area. Your gardens look stunning ...and the added and unexpected touches of decor, are really inspirational to make a garden a real part of living.

The photo of you and your hubby is gorgeous! Can't wait to see what you have in-stored for your garden this season. Sharing the beauty of nature with others is such a lovely gift.

Your post certainly brought a ray of sunshine to this wintry, snow filled day. The anticipation of spring has begun on this end.

Wishing you a fabulous week-end with your little furbaby. Hugs and blessings, C. (HHL)

These tours are so much work but such fun days. I always love the opportunities to make new gardening aquaintances! How is the new puppy doing? Larry

Thanks for this bright and cheerful winter-time look back at your gardens during the height of growing season! It was very refreshing. I love going on garden tours, so this was almost as good as the real thing. You were very brave to open up your garden to so many visitors, I would be terrified to let so many feet traipse through. I've always wanted a bench like the one your son made. It must be very special to you.

What a great feeling Beth to have so many people tour your lovely gardens. I know a lot of work goes into prepping for garden tours. Wonderful photo of you and your husband.

Oh Beth!!!!!!!! Seeing your garden on tour again brightens up an otherwise dreary winter day.
I love the shot of you & your sweetie! You make a very handsome couple.

I know you can't wait for Spring to arrive so you can get out there & dig in the dirt. LOL

Thanks for the recap. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

fondly,
Rett

How great to have a big garden tour, I love visiting these tours! Great garden shots, and I saw the foxes and thought no way they mustn't be foxes and they are, wow!!

Those flowers are beautiful. I love the fact that composting are being taught too. There is one thing missing in the garden and that is a garden shed.

Beth how fabulous. I love the foxes...mine won't climb the fence. I do want to get into a Master Gardener program but have not been able to find time...your garden and what you showed them is amazing...I am not surprised you had 500 people visiting.

Hello Beth, I wish I had been on your tour! I have been part of a garden tour several times (although I think 250 - 300 visitors was my max.), so I know how much work they are. The people who visited your garden were so lucky to do so. P. x

Hi Beth, Happy Friday to you! Thank you for sharing your garden with us-it is wonderful. I have done several garden tours here in northern Colorado and always enjoy then. Wish I could visit yours though.
You and your man are certainly a delightful couple.

Incredible, Beth. Hats off to you and your hubby. [You're a beautiful couple!] Wow! 500 people visiting your beautiful garden - I think I'd have been tempted to set up some tables for tea and scones while they were there and make some seed/plant money! ;-)
